Self-winding, stainless steel diver’s watch circa the 1960s.

Case: Stainless steel, screw-down crown, bidirectional rotating bezel, plexiglass crystal. Water resistant to 200m. 

Dial: Hours, minutes, sweep seconds, and date. Black dial with aged, ivory lume. Date at 3 o’clock. Lollipop seconds hand. Signed HY. Moser and Square.

Movement: Automatic, Felsa caliber 4007N, 25 jewels. 

Condition: Watch has a beautiful shiny black dial with great patinated markers and hands. Case is unpolished and has retained its great shape. Timing is within vintage specs  /- 10 seconds per day.

Diameter: 38mm, thickness: 12mm.

Serial: 75xxx.

Squale, a Swiss watch brand which dates to 1959, takes its name from the Italian word for “shark.” In the 60s, Squale earned its reputation as a maker of quality dive watches and dive watch cases, which it sold to other makers including Blancpain, DOXA, and Heuer. 

The present watch, dating to Squale’s “Golden Age” of dive watch manufacturing. The watch is a private label watch, signed both “Squale” and “Hy. Moser”, the jeweler who sold the watch.
